Utilization of Experimental Results from the Integral Test Facility “PKL” in Training Courses on PWR Thermal-Hydraulic

About the Workshop:

A brief description of Framatome’s integral test facility, PKL (German acronym Primärkreislauf-Versuchsanlage, Primary Circuit Test Facility), and its utilisation in PWR safety research, training, and code validations.

Requirements:

  • Basic knowledge on PWR components (primary and secondary circuits) and operation.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Examples of utilisation of experimental results from the integral test facility in safety analysis, training and code validation.
  • A brief discussion of main thermal-hydraulic phenomena in the courses of events of example PWR operating and accidental transients: Cool-Down in Asymmetric Natural Circulation Mode of Operation (Loss of Offsite Power), Small-Break Loss-of-Coolant Accidents (SB-LOCA), Inherent Boron Dilution Issues, Station-Blackout.
  • Examples on how experimental results can serve to illustrate and enhance understanding of the sequence of phenomena and basic thermal-hydraulic.

Agenda:

  • 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM: PKL test facility (30 min), Measurements and Interpretation (10 min) Basic conceptions of PWR T/H (single-/two-phase circulation, reflux-condenser, etc.)
  • 10:30 AM - 10:45 AM: Coffee Break.
  • 10:45 AM - 12:00 PM: Example Transient on Cool-Down in Natural-Circulation Mode-of-Operation Loss-of-Offsite Power (LOOP).
  • 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM: Lunch Break.
  • 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Example transient: SB-LOCA (Counterpart testing with LSTF on Impact of Non-Condensable Gases During Cool-Down).
  • 2:30 PM - 2:45 PM: Coffee Break.
  • 2:45 PM - 4:00 PM: Example transient: Cool-Down in Natural Circulation with SACO under Extended Loss-of-AC-Power (ELAP).
The participant will receive a certificate after completion of this workshop.
